Making quality software. An increasingly complex task

Why Is It Getting Harder to Build Software?

The question is inevitable. The answer is as clear as it is complex. Because today, software is not just a tool—it’s the operational and strategic engine of thousands of companies. As such, it demands far more than it used to. In this article, we’ll take an open look at why the evolution of platforms like iGEO requires increasing effort and investment if we want to stay at the forefront.

Tech Talent: The Heart of Software

One of the greatest challenges for any software company today is attracting and retaining talent. At iGEO, we have a team of programmers, software architects, designers, cybersecurity experts, product specialists, and QA (quality and testing) managers, among others, who represent an enormous asset for the company.

Software doesn’t maintain itself. Every new feature, improvement, or integration requires analysis, development, testing, validation, support, and follow-up. And that can only be guaranteed by a stable, committed, and highly qualified team. That’s why retaining talent is not just an investment—it’s an essential condition to ensure quality, continuity, and progress.

We must also provide our teams with the right tools to work under optimal conditions. These tools are key to ensuring product quality and operational efficiency. For example, project management platforms, cloud services, translation tools, and ticketing systems for support, among many others.

All of these come with costs that directly impact our operational expenses. At iGEO, we choose to keep using the best tools available because that’s what allows us to deliver a state-of-the-art product—more stable, more agile, and better prepared to scale.

Cybersecurity: When Protection Becomes More Important Than Growth

Cybersecurity has gone from being a value-add to being a critical necessity. The advancement of artificial intelligence not only improves our internal processes and customer experience, it also multiplies the power of cyberattacks.

That’s why at iGEO we’ve strengthened our entire security system: more specialized personnel, more protection tools, and more certifications. All of this aims to protect our clients’ data, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide a trustworthy working environment. We are currently in the process of obtaining ISO 27001 certification for information security, which will offer even greater protection to all our clients. As of today, we will be the first pest control software in the world to achieve this certification.

Artificial Intelligence, IoT, and the Future of the Industry

As you know, integrating AI into operational processes is one of our major commitments. This is not a trend—it’s a necessity dictated by today’s markets.

Nowadays, our clients need much more than a management tool; they need a platform that thinks, that anticipates, and that helps them make fast, effective decisions. This is where AI and iGEO will make a real difference in the coming years.

But that’s not all. At the same time, we’re driving forward the integration of IoT devices with iGEO. These connected sensors enable real-time data collection from client facilities, automate alerts, and improve action plans, thereby enhancing the quality of pest control programs. Currently, iGEO already integrates with more than 10 devices and leads an international project to develop a universal system for integrating devices into major software platforms in the market. The project is called Pest Control 4.0.

That’s why remaining a leading ERP isn’t just about “updating software.” It’s about constantly redesigning it to respond quickly and effectively to market demands. This compels us to keep investing—especially in the areas that truly matter: functionality, security, reliability, speed, and innovation—so our clients can boost efficiency and make better use of their time.

Administrative Requirements (Verifactu, New Regulations, Electronic Invoicing)

At iGEO, we not only focus on R&D and implementing improvements that enhance our clients’ productivity—we also continually adapt to the requirements of public administrations in the various countries where we operate.

Changes such as electronic invoicing in many markets, the introduction of Verifactu in Spain, or the publication of new regulations and royal decrees, force companies to adjust their workflows. These regulations require us to dedicate a great number of staff hours—often without a direct financial return that compensates for the effort involved.

Even so, at iGEO we firmly believe in investing in these adaptations. Our goal is to turn every regulatory change into a practical solution within our software, ensuring that our clients remain compliant with the law and can continue working with complete peace of mind.

Technology Evolves… and So Does iGEO

That’s why iGEO is much more than an ERP software—it’s the digital core of many pest control, environmental health, and service companies that rely on our platform daily to plan, execute, bill, monitor, and grow. And that responsibility drives us to stay one step ahead, making constant investments.

Today more than ever, developing software is complex—but it’s also exciting. Because when our clients tell us that they save more and more time in their daily work, that their technicians are better coordinated, or that they’ve improved customer loyalty, we know that all the effort has been worth it.

Behind every line of code, there’s much more than meets the eye: talent, effort, vision, and commitment. At iGEO, we intend to remain the most specialized software in the industry—even if that means continuing to invest in getting better every single day.
